Is senior pastor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church in, WA. He was installed in that position on February 25, 2002.

He has served as an Associate Minister at South Shore Community Church in Chicago, IL and Bethany Baptist Church in Evanston, IL. Rev. Carey was senior pastor at Saint John’s Church in Springfield, MA, First Congregational Church in Savannah, GA and the Roseland Church in Chicago, IL.

Pastor Carey is a Doctor of Ministry Candidate. He has a Master of Divinity, Master in Business Administration, and Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration. Some of his significant accomplishments include, but are not limited to:

• Developing and teaching a bible study workshop titled "How to Help Hurting People” where students learned how to overcome personal and emotional problems such as abandonment, anger, anxiety, depression, fear, etc and help others do the same. The program was extended 16 weeks due to the demand.
• Developing and teaching a Christ-Centered Substance Abuse Recovery Program

• Structured and implemented five (5) levels of Sunday School from pre-schoolers to adults, implemented Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer, a Praise and Worship Service, a Training Christian Education Teachers program, a Literacy Program and an AIDS Awareness Trainers Program;
   
• Developed The Community of Men, a program that provided an after school schedule, Monday through Thursday, for children. This program included tutoring, African American history and culture, recreational activities, job training, and a Junior Business League.

In his current position at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church, Pastor Carey has instituted the following:

Rev. Herbert J. Carey is married to the former Diane Carol Harrison. They are the proud parents of four children.
